The story

A squat limestone fort guarding the eastern harbour of Alexandria, raised by Sultan Al-Ashraf Qaitbay on the exact site of the Pharos lighthouse. Fallen masonry from the ancient lighthouse - including granite columns - was reused in its walls, making the fort a direct physical descendant of the wonder it replaced.
